non circulating library
i have a lot of really good music books. and cultural studies, and anthropology, and ethnomusicology, and folklore, and dj culture, and techno books.
i chose to stop seriously looking for an institution job a few years ago. and now, four years since my degree, and i ain’t teachin nobody. i mentor here and there. i really love it when college and graduate students contact me to ask me questions about detroit and doing music research. but i still feel like i’m sitting on a lot of information. sitting on a lot of education; that you’re supposed to turn around and offer to others.
so i decided to figure out how to establish myself as a non lending library. kind of like an archive where you study the materials in house. i consulted the American Library Association’s Standards Manual, and i’m still consulting. i imagine that visitors could make an appointment for a research visit. you can read my materials / i’ll make you tea. or bread and jam. you can take cameraphone photos of certain passages, but there’s no copier or scanner, and you can’t photograph the whole book or article.
