techno and house is Black music
i wrote in my little journal the following with a frenzied mindset cause i was pissed on the inside. i was tempted to edit it on the way from paper to screen, so i did a little for clarity, but why not do somethin different and put this shit up raw and vulnerable. so i'm still doin that too.
techno is Black music
house is Black music
haters dismissing this music as dumb, boring, repetitive, unsophisticated, rhythmically and melodically simplistic, not fit for the stage or concert hall, etc.
is white supremacy
it’s fucking everywhere
it’s social, it’s cultural, it’s institutional, it’s emotional, it’s intellectual
spirituals, the blues, gospel, jazz, rock, hip hop
all Black music
all faced this dismissal
this is white supremacy
techno is concert music
house is concert music
it’s just the concert halls are the club, and the performance happens in the middle of the night
these musics are composed using highly complex rhythms and melodies
the range of timbres, clean and distorted, is conservatory level outside of the conservatory
instrument mastery is conservatory level outside of the conservatory
intellectual and philosophical concepts …, this is getting repetitive
it’s just that the instruments are electrophones rather than aerophones or chordophones or membranophones or idiophones (if you love Sachs-Hornbostel instrument classification like me)
electricity at the level of composition lessens the validity of the music?
drum machines and synthesizers are complex musical instruments with a potential range of possibilities that becomes infinite in the right hands (and then in my frenzy, i also wrote, theo parrish)
because infinite possibilities and theo parrish make sense side by side
